about
Its difficult to walk around any UK rural or urban area or any area anywhere in the world without noticing an increase in the number of people falling into poverty or lacking the resources to satisfy the most basic of needs.
The song is about the deterioration in mental health characterised by feelings of distrust, helplessness, and disconnection throughout her life by a woman that found herself in this disadvantaged position as she slowly abandoned any naivety onto which she may have held that a miracle would come along and change her destiny.
In the face of adversity, she affords herself a smile and somewhere the motivation necessary to take life moment by moment develops.
Video includes some footage from Newham East London home to lead singer Winston Propaganda. where half of children (50%) are judged to be in households in poverty, compared to 37% in the typical London borough.
lyrics
Poverty Line
We are down on the killing floor……..Nobody gonna see her die
Eastside city Badlands ………. funeral car drive by…
Lost her name ….. a faceless crowd ….. we see the warning signs
Keep your head, buried alive, it’s a permanent lie. She nowhere to hide
She on the poverty line whoa oh oh oh oah X 2
Verse 2:
Panic if you mention love…… the exception not the rule…
See fact from fiction……… I always look a fool…
Memories fall…. into the present tense……… she run from what she see
Another day .. no way out…. all worn down .. and it’s a broken dream
She on the poverty line whoa oh oh oh ahhhhh X 2=
Verse 3
Sometimes theres faith in desperation …But if theres no one left inside
& if she waiting for a miracle ….. she be waiting for a long long time.
Police drive by.. uniforms ….….. wounded years go by
She tow the line… still a grind …. getting high .. still the wrong side of the poverty line
Chorus:
Outro:
She find a way out but she too young to die.
In the wrong place born the wrong time
Hold out her hand & everybody walk by
The things she say & did I see you smile .. on the poverty line.
